After you have taken your pet home to their nice, cozy bed, we ask that you monitor their recovery progress and check their incision site daily. Anesthesia can cause nausea, so some vomiting can be considered normal in the first 24 hours. If vomiting occurs, please take away all food and water for 1-2 hours. You may offer a small amount of food and water again after this time. Some dogs and cats may not eat or drink much at all on the first day. After 24 hours, if symptoms continue, please call our office.

When to Seek Emergency Pet Care: Excessive vomiting, not going out to potty, not eating, not drinking, excessive swelling or bruising at the incision site are all things that we would like to address promptly at our clinic. We pride ourselves on making your pet’s surgical experience as comfortable as possible and do not want to see your pet feeling poorly. If you feel your pet needs to be seen, you may either call our office to schedule a time, or you may come in between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Please do not feed your animal breakfast if you are coming in to see us in case we need to re-sedate your pet for any reason.
